Shushanhe Fm

Period:
Cretaceous

Age Interval:
Early Cretaceous, K1ssh, (4)

Province:
Xinjiang

Type Locality and Naming

Kuqa Depression, NW Tarim. The Shushanhe Formation was erected by the 107 Department of Petroleum Administration bureau of Xinjiang (Wang Aimin, 1975), and was first cited publicly by the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The type locality is located on the northern bank of the Kapshaliang River northwest of Baicheng County, Xinjiang (E81°36′20″, N42°02′40″). Middle formation in Kapushaliang Gr.

Synonym: (舒善河组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Shushanhe Formation is composed brownish red, brownish yellow and grey sandy mudstones, intercalated with intercalated with grey-green and grass-green mudstones, grey-green siltstone and sandstone. The formation is 855 m thick in the Kapushaliang section, and 640-1047 m in other places.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandy claystone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in a conformable contact with the underlying strata, with the grass-green mudstone from its basal part serving as its boundary with the underlying Yageliemu Fm

Upper contact

It is in a conformable contact, with the blue-grey mudstone from its top part serving as its boundary with overlying Baxigal Fm.

Regional extent

The formation represents lacustrine deposits and is distributed in between the Kyzylnur River and Tallak River, and is exposed in the Kumgelemu, Bashkiqick, Yichikelick and Turgemin anticlines and the northern monocline zone. It distributed in the Baicheng, Kuqa areas of Xinjiang.

Fossils:

It yields Ostracoda fossils such as Darwinula tubiformis, Cyprudea (Ulwellia) koskulensis, Rhinocypris cirrita, R. echinata, Damonella kapshaliangensis, Minheella subunioda and etc.
